DFI Session 1: Core Business

Kia ora. Today I was privileged to hear Dorothy Burt speak about the history of Manaiakalani and how the learn, create, share pedagogy was founded and has developed over the years.

I will continue to use voice typing with my students and explore different ways to maximise this tool such as making sure students change the language settings. I may also try using Google Docs with headers set up so that students can use the same doc over multiple sessions.
Today I learnt more about Google Groups and will definitely use the tags and topic features to help find past communication more efficiency.

I used Google Docs to make this poster. My poster is an invitation card for a house warming party.

  1. Hi Ravina, thanks for joining the DFI and particularly for taking it on during the COVID crisis when we are only able to meet online. You already have very useful digital skills and I hope they will stand you in good stead and that we are able to keep introducing new ideas for you to try.

  2. Ravina,

It was great being able to work along side you on Tuesday. Isn't great to think that Manaiakalani were able to make such huge shifts back in the day, without the need for digital devices! However, the devices were able to amplify and turbocharge the great learning and teaching that was going on!

I love the voice typing tool! It is empowering for students to know that they are able to write down their ideas and thoughts without the worry of spelling. This is often was stopped many students from writing, or from using quality vocab in their writing.

I look forward to hearing about how your students find using the voice tool.
